Ministry has a way of piling fear on your shoulders that was never meant to be carried. Fear of a shrinking budget. Fear of a critical email. Fear of not measuring up to the church down the road. I've felt all of it, and I imagine you have too.

Jesus spoke straight into this kind of fear when He told His disciples in Matthew 10:28-31, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

That's a hard verse, but it's also a freeing one. Jesus is reminding us that the things we fear the most- criticism, rejection, even physical harm- have no power over our souls. Only God holds that kind of authority, and He holds it with love, not condemnation.
